Kent is one of the Home Counties in the south east of England. It is known as the Garden of England. The term, North West Kent, is used to describe areas within the London boroughs which were historically part of Kent. The earliest records in this collection come from Chelsfield beginning in 1558. The collection also includes records from St Alfege (also spelt as Alphege) Church in Greenwich. Greenwich was a part of Kent until 1889 when it became part of the City of London. The Anglican parish church is dedicated to the Saint, who was the archbishop of Canterbury and martyred on the site in 1011 by Danish forces. In 1491, Henry VIII and his brother Edmund were baptised at St Alfege.
