Church of England Parish Registers 1538-1910

Cheshire Archives and Local Studies in association with findmypast.co.uk

From 1538 onwards all baptisms, marriages and burials in Church of England churches were required to be recorded in registers.

Not all registers have survived to the present, and there are often gaps over the Civil War period, but many parishes have series of registers beginning in the 16th century.

They cover the Diocese of Chester which comprises the historic County of Cheshire in its pre-1974 boundaries. Cheshire Archives and Local Studies also holds registers from parishes in the Diocese of Liverpool which fall within the areas of Halton and Warrington Boroughs.
