Established in 1963, Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry is one of the oldest family history societies in England, with some 4000 members. The area of interest that it covers is pre 1974 counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
The Society meets in Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Burton-on-Trent, Kenilworth, Stoke-on-Trent, Stourbridge, Wolverhampton, Worcester and London, but also runs one day courses for beginners in April and in October for more advanced researchers. All branches and the Heraldry Group hold regular meetings. The Research Centre contains over 8,000 books, BMSGH publications on microfiche and CD, parish records, IGI, monumental inscriptions, Internet access and a link service to members outside the area. The quarterly journal ‘The Midland Ancestor’, enables members at home and further afield to enjoy general articles on family history, learn more about the area of their ancestors, and be kept up to date with events and all the services that the society offers.
