Have you read our help and advice section?
It's likely that you will find the answer to your problem in our handy help and advice pages. Here's a breakdown of the different sections and what you can find in each:
- Getting started - an overview of the different aspects of starting your family history research
- Site tour - explores the different records we offer and what you can expect to find out when you search them
- Knowledge base - in-depth information about our records, their history and context
- Frequently asked questions - read commonly asked questions, neatly broken down into the relevant sections
Having problems with searching?
Try clicking the 'search tips' tab on each records search page. Here you can read clear advice on how to get the most out of searching these records. As a general rule, less is always more when searching for your ancestors. Start by entering the least possible amount of information, e.g., last name, and see what results come up. This way you can narrow down your search stage by stage and the chance of missing your ancestor is vastly reduced.
