Who Do You Think You Are? 2011
We wanted to know more about comedian Alan Carr's paternal line, so we investigated the marriage and census records on findmypast.co.uk to see what we could find.
Alan's paternal grandmother, Alma Brown, married Alan's grandfather, Wilfred Carr, in Northumberland in 1934. We found their marriage record using findmypast.co.uk's marriage records search tool MarriageFinderTM:
Tracking Alan's tree further back, we found Alma's parents, Alan's great grandparents. Matthew Brown was born in 1876 and Ethel Hume was born in 1882. Our research led us to their marriage record:
We found Ethel again a few years before her wedding. Her 1901 census return reveals that she was living in Northumberland with her parents, George and Sarah Hume, and younger sister Sarah. The census return also tells us that Ethel was working as a teacher in an elementary school in 1901. Click on the image to enlarge it:
We also unearthed Ethel's 1911 census return on findmypast.co.uk. It leads us to believe that she had given up her teaching career to bring up her two young sons, while her husband Matthew went out to work as a miner. Click on the image to enlarge it:
