1901 census - six new counties

Work on the 1901 census continues apace and we’ve just added six new counties, comprising over 2.7 million records.

The new counties are:

  • Cambridgeshire
  • Essex
  • Suffolk
  • Norfolk
  • Cornwall
  • Dorsetshire

As ever, these new records have been transcribed afresh and the images newly scanned. It’s quite possible, being an entirely new transcription, that you’ll discover ancestors you haven’t found in other online versions of the 1901 census, and better quality images too.

Here is famous cricketer Jack (real name John) Hobbs, a year before he turned professional, living in Cambridgeshire, aged 18. His father is listed as a groundsman for a cricket club (click image to enlarge):
