About Sheffield Archives and Local Studies Library

Sheffield Archives and Local Studies Library collects, preserves and makes available information from the 12th century to the present.

As well as collections of local church records, school records, electoral registers, newspapers and maps the library and archive also produces research guides on specialist areas of research including World War One, Tracing Missing Persons, Workhouses and Gang Wars etc. as well as several Community History guides of local areas. The Local Studies Library (in Sheffield Central Library) is open on Wednesdays 1-8pm and Thursdays and Fridays 9.30 - 5.30 and Saturdays 10.00 - 4.00. The Archives (at 52 Shoreham Street) is open on Mondays and Tuesdays 9.30-5.30 and Saturdays 9.30-5.30. A research service is also available.

Free access to Yorkshire parish records on Findmypast is available at the Archives and in the Local Studies Library.
