Oxfordshire Family History Society
Oxfordshire Family History Society was founded in 1976 to encourage and promote the study of family history. The society caters for those with Oxfordshire ancestry and those who live locally but with ancestors from elsewhere.
The main aims of the society are to foster interest in family history, and aid the progress of beginners; to provide, through publications and meetings, a means for exchanging news and information; to widen knowledge of the variety of genealogically useful records; to help preserve the most commonly used records by transcription, indexing and publication; to record fast disappearing monumental inscriptions.
Meetings are held at Kidlington, Oxford for 10 months of the year. The society's AGM is normally held in June and an open day in the autumn. Their research centre at Stanton St John contains many books, microfiche, CDs and broadband internet.
The Oxfordshire Family Historian, which is published three times per year, enables members at home and further afield to enjoy general articles on family and local history, general genealogical information, events and activities of the society. Similar information is also found on the website.
Resources are sold on DVD, CD, microfiche and in book form, with the bookstall currently selling in excess of 200 titles. Purchases can be made online using their shopping cart, or by post.
The Society is a Registered Charity, No. 275891, and a member of the Federation of Family History Societies.
