A monumental inscription is an etching carved into stone, wood, or a plaque to memorialise a person buried near or in that location. Monumental inscriptions are a valuable source for family historians and genealogists. Many will include multiple names and help to trace family connections. Over the centuries, many of these monuments to our ancestors have been damaged by weather, exposure, and, in some cases, vandalism. Through Findmypast’s excellent partnership with the Federation of Family History Societies, we have been provided with this index from the Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry. Learn more about the society through a link to their partner page available in the Useful links and resources section.
Once you discover your ancestor, take a step further by looking for a baptism record in the Worcestershire Baptisms collection, or for deaths after 1837, you may be able to find the civil registration of your ancestor’s death in England & Wales Deaths.
