The original records for this collection are held at the Surrey History Centre. The East Surrey Regiment was created in 1881 when the 31st and the 70th Regiments of Foot merged. The collection includes three sets of records:

The East Surrey Regiment 1st battalion served during the First World War at the Battle of Le Cateau, the Battle of Marne, the Battle of Aisne, the First and Second Battle of Ypres, the Battle of Vimy, the Battle of Epehy, and more. When the war ended in 1918, the battalion was stationed in Le Quesnoy, France.
