What can I do when I get too many search results on Findmypast?

Less is more when searching on Findmypast. We recommend searching broadly first and then using filters to narrow your search. However, if you’re searching for a common name or don’t add enough search criteria, you risk yielding an unmanageable number of search results. Should this happen, there are a few solutions you can try:

  1. Edit your search to include more details. You could be surprised at how much narrower your search becomes just by adding some more information.
  2. Use the search filters to narrow your search by location or record category. This will remove any irrelevant results from your search

Use the 'A-Z of record sets' to find the specific record set you want to search. Each record set has a dedicated search page with search fields designed specifically for it. This will ensure your search only covers the records you’re interested in

If you continue getting too many search results after trying these fixes, please feel free to contact our Customer Support team who will be happy to guide you through using Findmypast’s search tools.
