Folkestone & District Family History Society

We are pleased to be working with the Folkestone & District Family History Society, which encourages and promotes the study of family history in the South East Kent area.

Folkestone and District Family History Society was founded in 1976 to encourage and promote the study of family history in the South East Kent area, covering Folkestone, Hythe, Romney Marsh, and surrounding villages. It provides advice and assistance to members with South East Kent ancestry, as well as to members whose roots are elsewhere, and welcomes the beginner and the more experienced family historian alike.

Our programme of monthly meetings includes speakers on subjects of interest to beginners and experts alike, as well as discussion and project sessions. Time is allowed at meetings for informal exchange of advice and information and shopping at the bookstall. A guided walk of a place of local historical interest is usually arranged in the summer.

Kent, Lydd Midwife's Birth Register, 1757-1815

Thanks to our partnership with the Folkestone & District Family History Society, you can now explore the birth register of the midwife William Waylett from 1757 to 1815. Waylett practised in Lydd and the surrounding parishes on Romney Marsh in Kent.

This unique record set can help you discover details such as the names of the mother and father, details of the midwife and additional notes related to the pregnancy, delivery and payment for services.

Monumental Inscriptions & Burial records

The Folkestone & District Family History Society have contributed to our collection of monumental inscriptions for Kent, specifically relating to Folkestone Cheriton Road Cemetery.

The society has also made contributions to our vast collection of burial records for Kent. If you had ancestors from Kent, then you can now search through over 400 years of burial records to discover more about your ancestors and where they were buried.

Additional information from the society

Our journal, The Kentish Connection, published quarterly and free to members, contains articles by members and information on various family history topics.
