The first settlers to the colony were accompanied by the Colonial Chaplain (incumbent of [Holy] Trinity) being the only clergyman present for much of this period conducted most of the baptism services and maintained a register.

A few births were noted in the personal columns of the Register newspaper.

Apart from these records, births have been located in newspapers, inquest documents and sundry other government records. A few headstones mention early births and a number of books including the Biographical Index of South Australians 1836–1885 mention early deaths. These are rarely substantiated.

This list is by no means complete and some records cannot be confirmed. You need to treat some of the entries with caution and attempt to verify using the sources given.
