As war broke out in 1939, the British government took a register of the civil population. This was used to coordinate Identity Cards, ration books and eventually the NHS. In late 2015, Findmypast in association with The National Archives will be giving you access to the 1939 Register, the most significant family history release of the decade. This is the journey the Register takes through conservation, scanning and digitisation.
